Mt. Hope Columbarium

The Mount Hope Columbarium mediates between the cemetery’s historic, winding landscape and its newer rectilinear order through subtle shifts in topography and circulation. Drawing inspiration from tectonic forms and monumental burial architecture, the design uses earth from the site to lift cantilevered roof structures that house urns and gathering spaces. A gentle descent leads visitors along a central axis defined by sculptural elements, patterned CMU walls, and a poem by bell hooks, before returning them through the trees.
